The MSCI World Utilities ESG Reduced Carbon Select 20 35 Capped index measures the performance of a sub-set of equity securities within the MSCI World Utilities Index (“Parent Index”) which excludes issuers from the Parent Index based on the index provider’s environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) and exclusionary criteria. Issuers may be excluded if they are involved in controversial, nuclear and conventional weapons, civilian firearms, tobacco, thermal coal, oil sands and companies that are classified as violating the United Nations Global Compact principles. The Index also excludes companies which are identified by the index provider as being involved in controversies that have a negative ESG impact on their operations and/or products and services based on an MSCI ESG controversy score. The remaining companies are weighted using an optimisation process which aims to reduce the weighted average carbon emissions intensity as well as potential emissions risk of fossil fuel reserves, increase the weighted average industry-adjusted ESG score and minimise the tracking error, each relative to the Parent Index.
