S&P Dow Jones Indices (SPDJI) has appointed Invesco’s global head of ETFs Dan Draper as chief executive.

Draper (pictured) will replace Alexander Matturri who is retiring after 13 years with the firm of which eight were spent as CEO.

Matturri joined SPDJI in 2007 from Northern Trust Asset Management where he was senior vice president.

Prior to this, he spent 13 years at BNY Mellon between 1987 and 2000 before joining Deutsche Asset Management.

Based in New York, Draper will report to Douglas Peterson, president and CEO of S&P Global and will sit on the firm’s operating committee.

He spent seven years at Invesco, most recently as managing director and global head of ETFs.

Draper, who was named in ETF Stream’s 30 Index last year, which recognises the most influential experts across the European ETF industry, has held senior roles across a number of major ETF issuers.

This includes global head of ETFs at Credit Suisse and Lyxor for three years, respectively, and director of UK and Ireland business development at iShares when the business was owned by Barclays Global Investors.

Peterson commented: "We are very fortunate to add Dan to our executive team and have him lead our index business.

"Dan's leadership experience, innovative mindset, approach to customers, and commitment to excellence is essential to maintaining and growing our unique role in the capital markets."

Draper said: "I am excited to join S&P Global, a brand based on integrity, independence and over 130 years of providing essential information to the financial markets."

Matturri added: "Dan Draper is an experienced index professional with exceptional knowledge of our business and the indexing landscape overall.

"I am very proud of what the people at SPDJI have accomplished these past thirteen years and am excited to see a leader of Dan's calibre step in to continue our long-standing culture of innovation, thought leadership and growth."
