Ex-Source founder Thompson rejoins Goldman Sachs

Scott Longley

Peter Thompson has re-joined Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) to head up the company's European exchange traded fund (ETF) business.

Thompson was the founder of Source ETF, which was sold to Invesco in 2016. At source, he acted as president and interim chief executive, helping to establish the company as an independent asset management firm.

Prior to Source, Thompson worked across a number of trading riles at Goldman Sachs' securities division.

The news was revealed in an internal email at GSAM from Nick Phillips, head of international retail client business at the firm.

"We see strong demand in this category and are excited to bring an innovative and cost-efficient suite of products to European clients," hold told staff. "This offering will complement our global, broad and deep expertise across asset classes and builds on the success of our fast-growing US ETF business. Peter brings decades of experience and has been a pioneer in the European ETF market."
