HSBC has appointed former Bluefin Europe ETF business development director Henri Boua to the role of ETF advisory and execution.

In his new role, Boua will be responsible for working with institutional clients on ETF trading, liquidity, portfolio construction and asset allocation.

Boua spent five years at Bluefin Europe between April 2017 and May this year.

In January, ETF Stream revealed Bluefin had closed its ETF trading business in Europe, 15 years after first entering the market in 2007.

“On instructions from our headquarters in the US, Bluefin Europe is withdrawing from the ETF market,” a Bluefin Europe note to clients said.

Prior to this, Boua was responsible for ETF institutional sales at ETF Securities between 2012 and 2016 before moving to WisdomTree in the same role following the US issuer’s acquisition of the commodities ETF specialist’s European business.

Based in London, he will report to Steve Palmer, global head of ETF product for markets and securities services at HSBC.

Commenting on the appointment, Palmer said: “We are pleased to welcome Henri to the ETF trading team at HSBC.

“Henri will work with our institutional clients, covering all aspects of ETF trading and liquidity, portfolio construction and asset allocation.”
