Over 100 exchanges will ring the opening or closing bells to celebrate International Women’s Day 2021 on 8 March for the seventh year in a row.

In partnership with Women in ETFs and other organisations, the exchanges are ringing the bells to raise awareness about the positive impact gender equality has on the global economy.

It is well documented that women bring different experiences, perspectives and skills to the table. According to research by Morgan Stanley, companies that employ a holistic approach towards equal representations have outperformed their less diverse rivals by 2.8% a year over the past eight years.

The theme for International Women’s Day in 2021 is ‘Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world’ and celebrates the efforts by women around the world in shaping a more equal future in a post-pandemic environment.

Women leaders and women’s organizations have demonstrated their skills, knowledge and networks to effectively lead in COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.

Major exchanges across Europe are involved including the London Stock Exchange, Euronext Paris, Deutsche Boerse and SIX Swiss Exchange.

Commenting on International Women’s Day, the leadership of Women in ETFs said: “There is a natural synergy for Women in ETFs to celebrate International Women’s Day with bell ringings.

“Gender equality is central to driving the global economy and the private sector has an important role to play.

“Our mission is to create opportunities for professional development and advancement of women by expanding connections among women and men in the financial industry.”
