LGIM appoints EMEA ETFs head after Li promotion

The pair joined from ETF Securities when it was acquired by LGIM in 2018

Legal and General Investment Management (LGIM) has appointed Aanand Venkatramanan as head of ETFs for EMEA after promoting Howie Li to global head of index and ETFs last December.

Reporting to Li, Venkatramanan (pictured) will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the firm’s ETF team while continuing his focus on investment strategy development and key client mandates.

Previously, he was LGIM's head of ETF investment strategies, a role he has held since joining in 2018 as part of the firm's acquisition of ETF Securities' Canvas platform.

At ETF Securities, he was director of quantitative strategies.

Prior to this, he worked as vice president of index research at Barclays Capital and vice president of structuring at Goldman Sachs International.

Meanwhile, Li will lead the next phase of growth of LGIM’s combined index and ETF business.

Li also joined LGIM from ETF Securities and has since overseen assets across the firm’s 50-strong ETF range increase fourfold during his tenure. 

In his almost 10 years at ETF Securities, he operated in a variety of roles including latterly as CEO of the Canvas platform.

Venkatramanan is set to speak on a panel discussing future developments in European ETFs at ETF Stream’sETF Ecosystem Unwrapped event on 25 May.
