Morningstar has appointed Libby Bernick (pictured) as its head of sustainability, effective 9 September.

Bernick is based in Pennsylvania and is to lead Morningstar’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) team following recent growth in investor demand. She will report to Morningstar’s head of global research Haywood Kelly.

Her duties involve offering the company’s clients the tools to align their portfolios with personal values as well as gaining a better understanding of ESG risk. This is enabled by working closely with Morningstar’s research, product, marketing and sales leaders.

Bernick brings 25 years of experience, joining Morningstar from ESG analytics firm Trucost where she served as managing director and global head of Trucost corporate business. Prior to Trucost, Bernick also held sustainability-focused roles at UL Environment, PE-Five Winds and Rhoads Engineering.

Haywood Kelly said in a statement: “Libby has a great combination of deep subject-matter expertise, particularly in environmental issues and associated data.

“I’m confident she will build on the success of our ESG programme to date, which includes the launch of the Morningstar Sustainability Rating (globe ratings) and Carbon Risk Scores, as well as a host of supporting data and research.”
