Coop (pictured) will succeed Dan Kemp, who was recently appointed global CIO of Morningstar Investment Management.
In his new role, Coop will report to Kemp and will lead the investment management team for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and work with advisors and institutions to deliver the company’s investment solutions.
He initially joined Morningstar in 2017 and has been responsible for the European Morningstar Managed Portfolios range since his arrival. Coop is also the company’s global lead on Portfolio Construction Best Practice and the global chair for Cross Asset Research at the firm.
Previously, he spent 12 years as head of multi-asset strategies at Ibbotson Associates, two years as head of multi assets at MIM and most recently, almost two years as head of multi-asset portfolio management at Prudential Portfolio Management Group.
Coop began his career in finance as a fund analyst at ipac in 1987 and has also held strategy and consultancy roles as Hewitt Associates, AXA Sun Life Investment Management, BT Financial Group and Bacon & Woodrow.
Commenting on the promotion, Kemp said: “Mike has deep experience in multi-asset investing, represents the embodiment of our investment principles, and has an obvious passion for delivering great returns to end investors.
“He successfully managed the team and our Real Return portfolios through one of the most challenging investment climates of the last century and was instrumental in the launch of our flagship multi-asset funds, which he continues to lead.”
Earlier in the year, the firm announced another shift in senior personnel with the rehiring of Monika Dutt as director of passive strategies research for Europe, after she spent three years at Vanguard.
