Morningstar has promoted Hortense Bioy to director of sustainability research for EMEA and Asia-Pacific (APAC).

In the newly created role, Bioy (pictured) will be responsible for driving sustainable research across the two regions.

She will report to Jeffrey Ptak, head of manager research at Morningstar.

Ptak commented: “Given Hortense’s passion for ESG and our ambitions in this area, we felt now was a logical time to fully dedicate her to sustainability research.

“We are excited about Hortense helping us to further advance our goal of imprinting ‘investors first’ values on sustainable investing through insightful analysis and thought leadership in her new role.”

The firm has started the search to replace her as head of the EMEA passive strategies team, a role she has held since 2012.

Bioy joined Morningstar from Bloomberg as a senior ETF analyst in 2010 before bring promoted to director of ETF research, Europe, in 2012.

She subsequently took on the role of director of sustainability research, Europe, along with her role as director of passive strategies in 2018.

Bioy was recently named in ETF Stream’s Industry 30 2020, which recognises the individuals that have had the biggest impact on the European ETF industry over the past year.

Her promotion comes three months after the firm purchased the remaining 60% of ESG ratings provider Sustainalytics in April.
