Morningstar has re-hired Vanguard’s Monika Dutt as director of passive strategies research for Europe.

In the new role, Dutt will lead a team of four analysts specialising in researching and rating index mutual funds and ETFs.

She replaces Hortense Bioy who was promoted to the newly created role of director of sustainability research for EMEA and Asia-Pacific in July 2020.

Helping to fulfil Morningstar’s primary function as a provider of independent investment research, Dutt will collaborate with the company’s global team to curate research on funds and other investment vehicles.

Dutt spent three years at Vanguard as a senior ETF analyst before progressing to portfolio consultant within the firm’s portfolio review department.

She started her career at Bloomberg before joining Morningstar for the first time in 2015 where she was a passive strategies analyst for three years.

Based in London, Dutt will report to Ben Johnson, director of passive strategies within the global manager research team.

Johnson commented: “As the asset management industry notes the growing and evolving trend of passives, we look forward to welcoming Monika in this leadership role given her deep subject matter expertise of the indexing and exchange-traded funds space.”

“Having previously worked with Morningstar, she brings an already strong knowledge of our research process and ratings methodologies, in addition to an understanding of our core values to help investors.”
