Index provider Scientific Beta has appointed David Wickham as deputy CEO, global sales and client director.

Based in London, Wickham will be responsible for growing the firm’s flagship multi-factor indices, the Climate Impact Consistent indices (CISI).

Wickham joins from abrdn where he was senior investment director, global head of quant solutions and ESG lead having joined the business in 2016.

Prior to this, he was a senior investment director for emerging markets and smart beta solutions at HSBC Global Asset Management and also held roles at Invesco, Insight Investment, JANA Investment Advisers and Mercer Investments.

His experience spans private markets and both long-only and long-short public markets investing across developed emerging and frontier markets.

In January 2020, Singapore Exchange purchased a majority stake in Scientific Beta. The firm was originally founded by the academic institution EDHEC-Risk Institute in a bid to bridge the gap between academia and the finance industry.

Scientific Beta currently runs two index ranges, its flagship CISI and the multi-factor indices.

The index provider has been vocal in its opposition to the European Union’s climate benchmarks citing “significant flaws” in its draft regulation.
