Vanguard has appointed Sarah Cognetti as head of the European ETF capital markets team, replacing Thomas Bartolacci, who has moved to head of US fixed income investment risk,

The move follows the departure of Grégoire Blanc (pictured) to Amundi last week, who joins as head of the French asset manager’s ETF capital markets team.

This appointment is part of wider hiring spree made by Amundi, which is focusing on strengthening its passive arm with “targeted recruitment”, according to CEO Yves Perrier.

This includes the appointment of Ashley Fagan from BlackRock, to head up its ETF, indexing and smart beta development for the UK and Ireland in January and Liz Wright from Vanguard, ETF Stream revealed in August, while it also hired Marco Strohmeier as head of ETF, indexing and smart beta sales for Switzerland in March.

Blanc spent a year at Vanguard as senior capital markets specialist, joining from Lyxor where he was head of ETF capital markets.

Bartolacci was head of European ETF capital markets for three years. He joined Vanguard in 2008 as a fixed income trader before becoming head of ETF capital markets in 2015.

Meanwhile, Cognetti has held a number of roles at Vanguard since she started her career there in 2008 as a financial analyst.

She subsequently became chief of staff for CEO and chairman Tim Buckley in 2016 and then head of ETF capital markets in February.

Cognetti was based in London for three years of her career at Vanguard between 2011 and 2014 before moving to the US.
