The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has appointed Fiona Bassett as CEO of FTSE Russell from DWS.

Based in New York, Bassett (pictured) will be responsible for running one of the world’s largest index providers with $18trn global assets benchmarked to its indices.

She replaces Arne Staal, who is moving to another role within LSEG having had two years in the role.

Bassett joins from DWS where she was CEO of DWS UK and global head of systematic investment solutions, managing more than $300bn assets under management (AUM).

She has over 20 years of experience in the financial sector, having previously held various senior leadership positions at Deutsche Bank.

David Schwimmer, CEO of LSE, said: “Fiona is a recognised industry leader and FTSE Russell will benefit greatly from her deep experience of building and transforming businesses in asset management, index investing and investment banking.”

Bassett added: “FTSE Russell is an incredible business and trusted partner for institutional and retail investors in more than 70 countries.

“I am delighted to be joining the team and excited about the opportunity we have at LSEG.”

Last month, FTSE Russell launched a UK ESG suite covering its flagship FTSE 100, 250, 350 and All-Share benchmarks.
