Morningstar Indexes head of Europe Tobias Sproehnle has left the business 18 months after he joined on the acquisition of Moorgate Benchmarks.

Sproehnle was CEO of Moorgate Benchmarks until Morningstar Indexes acquired the firm for an undisclosed fee in September 2021.

He found the business in 2018 alongside Gareth Parker, now Morningstar’s chief indexing officer.

Following the acquisition, he became head of Europe, reporting to Ron Bundy, president of the firm.

Sproehnle has over 20 years of industry experience, working at Eurex as a senior product manager before joining HIS Markit as head of credit indices. He later become head of fixed income at FTSE Russell.

Morningstar confirmed Sproehnle left the business to “pursue other opportunities”. The group did not respond when asked about a potential replacement.

The index provider purchased Moorgate Benchmarks to add index design, calculation and administration technology capabilities to its own data, as well as looking to expand its presence in Europe.
