MSCI has promoted Remy Briand to chief product officer and head of index amid a raft of senior leadership changes at the index provider.

Formerly head of ESG and climate, Briand (pictured) will be responsible for finding solutions to clients’  investment challenges. He will continue to report to Baer Pettit, president, and chief operating officer at MSCI.

He will also be responsible for leading the business strategy for the index product line, taking over the role from Diana Tidd, who will pivot to focus solely on her role as chief responsibility officer (CRO).

Tidd joined the group in 2018 as CRO and will continue to lead MSCI’s integration of ESG practices across its strategy, governance and business operations.

Eric Moen, former global head of ESG client coverage, will replace Briand as head of ESG and climate having worked closely with him for over a decade. He will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the ESG and climate team and driving innovation across all product lines.

Elsewhere, Alvise Munari has been promoted to chief client officer having previously been global head of client coverage, reporting to Pettit.

Jeremy Baskin will become head of buy side client segments while Christine Berg has been named head of client coverage for the Americas.

Finally, Michelle Shanley has been promoted from head of strategic accounts for the Americas to head of strategic and key accounts.

Commenting on the reshuffle, Pettit said: “Briand and Munari are uniquely positioned to help MSCI continue to understand and meet the evolving needs of our clients through our suite of integrated products and services.

“The other appointments in key leadership positions in MSCI Solutions and Client Coverage will enhance our senior management team.”

Henry Fernandez, chairman and CEO of MSCI, added: “The senior leadership changes demonstrate our ability to adapt, transform and capitalize on our momentum to drive growth, scale our business and operations, and deliver extraordinary value to our clients and shareholders.”

Last September, MSCI appointed Melissa McDonald as global head of environmental, social and governance (ESG) and climate indices from HSBC Asset Management, based in London and reporting to Tidd and Briand.
