Chanchal Samadder, head of ETF sales strategy, specialist distribution, at abrdn, has left less than a year after joining and ahead of the asset manager’s planned ETF launch in Europe, ETF Stream can reveal.

Samadder joined abrdn from Lyxor in March, in a sign the firm was starting to ramp-up preparations for a push into the European ETF market.

A spokesperson from abrdn told ETF Stream in a statement: “We can confirm that Chanchal Samadder has left abrdn. We would like to thank him for his contribution to the business and wish him well for the future.”

His departure is not set to derail abrdn’s ETF push into Europe with the firm already running a US ETF business that houses some $7.1bn assets under management (AUM).

At the time of his arrival, a spokesperson said: “Work is underway to build upon this success by delivering our research and analytical strengths via ETFs.”

Standard Life Aberdeen: The next major ETF issuer in Europe?

Samadder spent eight years at Lyxor, most recently as head of ETF product strategy, a role he held for just over one year.

He joined the French asset manager from BlackRock in 2013 as head of UK and Ireland ETF sales before being promoted to head of equity ETFs in 2017.
