SIX will appoint Bjorn Sibbern global head of exchanges from Nasdaq at the start of next year.

From 1 January 2024, Sibbern (pictured) will be responsible for heading up the exchange businesses at the Swiss Exchange, Spanish Exchanges and the SIX Digital Exchange.

He will also become a member of the executive board at SIX Group.

Sibbern spent almost 16 years at Nasdaq and was appointed president for European markets in 2019.

He has also acted as head of global information services, president of Nasdaq OMX Copenhagen, global head of commodity markets and head of Nordic equities markets during his time at the firm.

At Nasdaq, Sibbern oversaw acquisitions including eVestment, Quandl and Puro Earth.

Prior to that, he spent almost two years as director of E*Trade Bank and head of trading at Stocknet.

Sibbern also holds other positions including board member at the Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE) and Puro Earth as well as the chairman of CORIT Advisory and a member of the Danish Committee for Corporate Governance.

Commenting on the move, Sibbern said: “The past 15 years have been incredibly rewarding, having worked across geographies and led various teams, including Investment Intelligence most recently driving a unified strategy in support of our European trading, listings and markets business.

“I bring all of those experiences, memories, and valuable learnings with me as I take on my new role at SIX and I look forward to gaining new experiences, making new memories and learning new lessons together with all the fantastic people at SIX.”

Sibbern becomes the second C-suite appointment by major exchanges this month after London Stock Exchange promoted Charlie Walker from head of equity and fixed income primary markets to deputy CEO.
