State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) has named Ann Prendergast as head of its business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Prendergast (pictured) joined SSGA in 2000 and will now be responsible for developing SSGA’s strategic direction in Europe, while providing regulatory oversight for the group’s EMEA activities.

She will lead approximately 500 staff across the region and will also take on some of the remit of Rory Tobin, who announced his retirement from his role as global head of SPDR and head of EMEA in June.

Based in Dublin, Prendergast will report directly to SSGA president and CEO Yie-Hsin Hung who joined in September 2022.

Previously, she was responsible for SSGA’s portfolio management, distribution, product development, fund management and operations across Europe.

Prendergast said: “There is a significant opportunity ahead of us to strengthen our existing franchises and client relationships, while also focusing on new strategic areas.”

Hung added: “Ann brings a deep understanding of our business to her new responsibilities, having spent more than two decades of her career with our firm.

“I am confident that we will benefit greatly from her deep industry knowledge, strong client orientation, regulatory experience and leadership strengths.”
