Following the S&P 500's worst correction since COVID-19 and the Hang Seng's worst session since 1997, ETF Stream spoke to Swiss economists and investors about the playbook for a tariff war.

In a move to unsettle the globalised trade paradigm of the last four decades, Donald Trump last week announced the most sweeping raft of levies by any US President against its trading partners since 1930.

Panelists were in agreement that the tariffs will be subject to change following negotiation, but the Federal Reserve will have the unenviable job of balancing economic growth and resurgent inflation in the coming months.

Against this backdrop, the view was unanimous - it is "not time to buy the dip" and there are safe havens and diversifiers which now play a crucial role within portfolios.

The speakers:

  • Adrien Pichoud, chief economist at Syz

  • Mikaël Safrana, CIO at Capital Y

  • Yvan Roduit, head of advisory at Raiffeisen
