SIX-owned ETF data provider Ultumus has hired Matthew Knapman as head of ETF product and COSMOS.

Based in London, Knapman will report to Bernie Thurston, CEO of Ultumus, and will be responsible for supporting the firm’s creation-redemption platform, COSMOS.

He has more than seven years of experience in ETFs and data including four years as portfolio manager at ETF Securities Australia prior to its acquisition by Global X and Mirae Asset last June.

Prior to this, Knapman spent over three years in data analysis and sales roles at Morningstar, latterly with a focus on asset management and indexing.

Commenting on the appointment, Thurston told ETF Stream: “Mat brings a wealth of experience in the end-to-end creation-redemption process and will be working with both the existing client base and new clients as the acceleration and adoption of the COSMOS platform continues across our global client base.

“We were excited to bring Mat on board with his wealth of knowledge as the growth of COSMOS in the authorised participant and market maker space has been significant to date and we are anticipating substantial growth across 2023.”

Knapman added: “We are bringing together all parties in the creation-redemption process and giving asset managers unparalleled levels of customisation along the way.

“As a result, we will be streamlining workflows from portfolio composition file (PCF) generation to settlement, improving compliance and giving transparency to approved parties.”

The hire comes a year after Ultumus partnered with Vyne on ETF and index data and a year-and-a-half after the firm was acquired by SIX from ETFS Capital.
