WisdomTree has expanded its thematic range with the launch of a global automotive innovators ETF.

The WisdomTree Global Automotive Innovators UCITS ETF (WCAR) is listed on Deutsche Boerse and Borsa Italiana with a total expense ratio (TER) of 0.45%. WCAR will also be available on the London Stock Exchange from 28 September.

WCAR will track the Berylls LeanVal Global Automotive Innovators NTR index which offers exposure to companies involved in the future automotive industry.

WisdomTree partnered with automotive and mobility experts Berylls Strategy Advisors to help build the index, providing bottom-up views on companies that look set to benefit from automobility megatrends.

Companies from across the value chain will be considered for entry into the index and will then be screened for financial strength based on research from LeanVal.

It will try and capture four megatrends including connectivity, autonomous driving, shared mobility and electrification.

In addition, WCAR will only include companies that meet WisdomTree’s ESG criteria.

WisdomTree said the industry is currently transitioning from a traditional ecosystem to a “multi-model” ecosystem leveraging new technologies and decarbonising transportation services.

Christopher Gannatti, global head of research, WisdomTree, said: “This has created a clear gap for an ETF providing diversified geographic and sector exposure, covering companies that are relevant today and identified the companies that stand to benefit the most from the further proliferation of the theme and are poised to grow with it.”

Alex Marinof (pictured), head of Europe at WisdomTree, added: “This launch reinforces our commitment to delivering differentiated and pure thematic exposures.”

WCAR is the ninth ETF in WisdomTree’s thematic range and the fourth thematic launch of the year. The firm’s previous thematic ETF launch was the WisdomTree Blockchain UCITS ETF (WBLK) earlier this month.
