It is a fascinating, and also challenging, time to be an environmental, social and governance (ESG) investor. The landscape is developing rapidly with increasing focus on the quality of ESG data, the role of nuclear in the transition to a low-carbon economy and an ever-changing regulatory environment for investors to grapple with.

At the heart of all of this lies portfolio construction and the challenges investors face when sifting through the vast array of ESG ETFs listed in Europe, many of which are labelled in similar ways but have entirely different outcomes.

This ESG ETF Workshop will aim to cut through the noise and assess some of the key issues currently facing investors in the ESG ETF space.

ESG ETFs – the active advantage

ESG ETFs continue to see significant inflows. Most ETF investors use passive ESG indices to build their ESG portfolios, but an actively managed approach can offer a “core” product with ESG integration at every stage of the process and the ability to add value to performance outcomes. Hear from Piera Elisa Grassi, portfolio manager of several JPM Research Enhanced Index (ESG) ETFs, how the largest active UCITS equity ETF range can help you generate alpha with index-like risk within a robust risk management and ESG framework

16:35 - 17:35

Demystifying China ESG and accessing the $trillion growth opportunities

In this session, Dr Xiaolin Chen will address China’s investment sustainability development, particularly about China’s green investing, ESG goals in its 14th Five-Year Plan and the longer-term objectives including reaching carbon neutrality by 2060, and how investors can benefit from these lucrative investment opportunities

16:35 - 17:35

Can you have your cake and ESG it too?

ESG approaches are increasingly a requirement for investors. This is extending from an initial focus on equity allocations to broader strategies. One such area currently in the spotlight is income generation within an ESG framework. Fixed income strategies are typically pivotal for income-producing portfolios, but can investors capture that income whilst maintaining their ESG objectives?
The session from First Trust will explore the inclusion of ESG as a factor in income-producing fixed income strategies, with a focus on emerging markets. This can potentially help investors to meet both their income and ESG needs
